Chancellor’s National Academy STEM Ph.D. Fellowship Program
The Hagler Institute for Advanced Study is proud to continue the Chancellor’s National Academy STEM Ph.D. Fellowship Program (“Chancellor’s Fellowship”) for outstanding students working in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. This program is funded by the Chancellor of the Texas A&M University System, and its purpose is to attract more of the nation’s top students to Texas A&M University and team them with a national academy member and a rising star faculty member. Collaboration between students, national academy members and rising star faculty is a signature component of this program.
The Chancellor’s Fellowship will provide:
- A $40,000 per year stipend for four years of graduate study.
- Tuition and fees for four years of graduate study.
- Student health insurance through the Academic Health Plan for four years.
For those Chancellor’s Fellowship recipients who are also awarded a major national fellowship, such as a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship or a National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship, the Chancellor’s Fellowship program will augment those awards to raise the student’s total annual stipend to $50,000 per year, in addition to the provision of tuition, fees and health insurance.
Fellowships will begin in the fall 2026 semester.
For purposes of this program, the national academies include the following:
- American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AMACAD)
- National Academy of Engineering (NAE)
- National Academy of Medicine (NAM)
- National Academy of Sciences (NAS)
Please scroll to the bottom of this webpage for a listing of Texas A&M University national academy members and departments participating in the program this year.
In addition to collaborating with participating national academy members, applicants will likely have multiple opportunities to interact with other national academy members on the faculty as well as visiting Fellows of the Hagler Institute for Advanced Study. All Hagler Institute Fellows have national academy membership or equivalent international recognition in their home country. The combination of faculty national academy members and visiting Hagler Fellows creates an extraordinary community of stellar scholars, making this program globally unique.
Student Eligibility Requirements:
- Applicants should earn a bachelor’s degree in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) field no later than August 2026. Some applicants will also have a master’s degree. However, a master’s degree is not required.
