Cooks’ special interest is in mass spectrometry, including fundamental phenomena, instrumentation, and analytical applications. His lab studies colliding ions in the gas phase and at surfaces. Cook is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has served on various panels and committees of the National Science Foundation. Honors include the Centenary Medal, Royal Society of Chemistry; the Dreyfus Prize in the Chemical Sciences, Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation; the Robert Boyle Medal for Analytical Science, Royal Society of Chemistry for Analytical Chemistry; and the F.A. Cotton Medal for Excellence in Chemical Research, Texas A&M Section of the American Chemical Society. Cooks will offer a series of lectures on mass spectrometry and collaborate with faculty and students in the College of Science.
