Known for his contributions to game theory, contract theory, social choice theory and political economy, Eric S. Maskin shared the 2007 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics for advancing mechanism design: the study of when and how social and economic goals can be achieved through the design of new institutions.
He belongs to the National Academy of Sciences and is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the British Academy, the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory, the Royal Academy of Economic Sciences and Finance (Spain), the Econometric Society and the Game Theory Society. He is a past Guggenheim Fellow and Sloan Research Fellow as well as an honorary fellow at Darwin, Jesus and St. John’s colleges, Cambridge.
Other honors include the Medal of Honor, Congress of Peru, the Kempe Award in Environmental Economics and 18 honorary doctorate degrees.
He has authored or edited four books and 145 peer-reviewed articles.
Maskin will collaborate with faculty, researchers and students in the College of Arts and Sciences.
