Chancellor’s National Academy STEM Ph.D. Fellowship Program
Program Overview
The Hagler Institute for Advanced Study is proud to continue the Chancellor’s National Academy STEM Ph.D. Fellowship Program (Chancellor’s Fellowship) for outstanding doctoral students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Funded by the Chancellor of The Texas A&M University System, this program aims to attract the nation’s top students to Texas A&M University each year and pair them with both a member of a national academy and a rising star faculty member. Collaboration among students, national academy members, and rising star faculty is a signature component of the program. The national academy member may serve as the student’s chair, co-chair, or committee member.
For purposes of the Chancellor’s Fellowship program, the national academies are defined as follows:
- American Academy of Arts and Sciences
- National Academy of Engineering
- National Academy of Medicine
- National Academy of Sciences
Please scroll to the bottom of this webpage for a listing of Texas A&M University national academy members and departments and interdisciplinary programs participating in the fellowship program this year.
In addition to collaborating with participating national academy members, selected applicants will likely have multiple opportunities to interact with other national academy members on the faculty as well as visiting Fellows of the Hagler Institute for Advanced Study. All Hagler Institute Fellows have national academy membership or equivalent membership in their respective field. The combination of faculty national academy members and visiting Hagler Fellows creates an extraordinary community of scholars, making this a globally unique program for Ph.D. study.
Fellowship Benefits
The Chancellor’s Fellowship provides the following benefits:
- A $40,000 annual stipend for four years of graduate study.
- Tuition and fees for four years of graduate study.
- Student health insurance through the Academic Health Plan for four years.
Fellowships will commence in the Fall 2027 semester.
Student Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must earn a bachelor’s degree in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) field by August 2027. While some applicants may also hold a master’s degree, a master’s degree is not required.
- Applicants must have a cumulative undergraduate grade point average in their STEM bachelor’s program of study greater than or equal to 3.9 on a 4.0 scale.
- Applicants must either apply for admission or already be admitted to a participating STEM doctoral program at Texas A&M University, with the intent to begin their Ph.D. studies in the fall of 2027. Selected students must be officially accepted for admission and enroll for the Fall 2027 semester. Current doctoral students are not eligible to apply.
- Applicants must be a U.S. resident, U.S. permanent resident, or eligible noncitizen.
