Chancellor’s National Academy STEM Ph.D. Fellowship Program

The Hagler Institute for Advanced Study is proud to announce the Chancellor’s National Academy STEM Ph.D. Fellowship Program (“Chancellor’s Fellowship”) for outstanding students working in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. This program is funded by the Chancellor of the Texas A&M University System, and its purpose is to attract more of the nation’s top students to Texas A&M University and team them with a graduate committee co-led by a national academy member and a rising star faculty member. Collaboration between students, national academy members, and rising star faculty is a signature component of this program.

During the 2024-2025 academic year, 15 Chancellor’s Fellowships will be awarded to begin in the Fall 2025 semester.

The Chancelor’s Fellowship will offer the following to awarded students for four years of graduate study:

  • A $40,000/year stipend.
  • Tuition and fees.
  • Student health insurance through the Academic Health Plan.
  • For those Chancellor’s Fellowship recipients who also receive a major national fellowship such as a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (GRFP) or a National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship, the Chancellor’s Fellowship program will augment those fellowships to raise the student’s total annual stipend to $50,000 a year with tuition, fees and health insurance paid for four years.

The national academies include the following:

  • American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AMACAD)
  • National Academy of Engineering (NAE)
  • National Academy of Medicine (NAM)
  • National Academy of Sciences (NAS)

Please scroll to the bottom of this web page for a listing of national academy members and their departments that will potentially award one or more of the 15 fellowships available this year.

In addition to collaborating with national academy members, applicants will likely have multiple opportunities to interact with visiting Fellows of the Hagler Institute for Advanced Study.
