Alexandra Foran

I am a first year PhD student from a pure mathematics background with no information as to the research being done between mathematics and mathematics education. My desire was and is to work to help connect the mathematics and mathematics education worlds. Through my year of the TIAS HEEP fellowship, I have had the incredible opportunity to work with Dr. Roger Howe from Yale University and Dr. Yeping Li from Texas A&M, studying the mathematics knowledge of undergraduate education majors through the Problem Solving in Mathematics course offered here at Texas A&M. Through my interactions with Drs. Li and Howe, I also had the opportunity to connect with leading mathematics and mathematics education researchers from across the US through the Mathematics Matters in Education conference that was hosted by Texas A&M this year. I am incredibly thankful for the HEEP fellowship, and the opportunities that were offered to me because of the financial support I received. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to work with such esteemed researchers.
